Formula Rationale

Imurex (Yu Ping Feng Wan or Jade Windscreen Pill) was originally compiled and recorded in Dan Xi Xin Fa during the Yuen Dynasty (1347 A.D.). It is used to augment the qi (especially Wei/ Defensive Qi), which stabilizes the exterior and arrests spontaneous sweating. Deficiency of Wei Qi may lower the defensive function of the skin, increasing a person's susceptibility to exterior pathogens.

Large dose of Huang Qi is the chief herb in the formula, used to strengthen Wei Qi at the exterior. Bai Zhu assists Huang Qi in strengthening and stops spontaneous sweating. Fang Feng dispels wind pathogens.

The herbs in the formula have a unique complementary/ balancing property; the exterior-releasing herb, Fang Feng, prevents the retention of pathogenic factors trapped by qi-tonifying Huang Qi; whereas, Huang Qi supplies the qi to the body and prevents damage potentially induced by exterior-releasing herb.
